New Art — The Sea Serpent Lives 🐍✨
8 months ago – Tue, Aug 26, 2025 at 09:39:23 AM

Greetings, folks!

Following up on the last poll—the Sea Serpent won by a landslide! And I’ve got to say, I had so much fun bringing it back to life in a new art piece that fits perfectly with the style of the book. I’m proud to share that it has now become the title page for the Tables chapter. Check it out:

I’ve also been making progress on the layout front, and here’s a look at what I’ve been working on: the Seeds Table spread.

With 648 words, it will take up three full spreads, and I want it to feel easy to parse—not just a wall of cramped text. I’m pretty happy with how it’s shaping up so far. I might add some light accents, but I don’t want to overcrowd the page. Maybe I’ll even dial it down a notch for the following spreads—we’ll see!

Next Piece of Art: The Echo Bug

For the next piece, I’m taking inspiration from something suggested on Discord. One person mentioned making art based on what we created together during the livestream, and another suggested using the bizarre infinite echo bug we had that day. Too good of an idea to pass up!

So, I’ll be trying to capture a surreal, eerie interpretation of what a “livestream echo bug” might look like as an art piece. Not sure yet if I can pull it off, but I’m excited to try.

🎶 Music Recommendation

I'll leave you with a recommendation. While drawing the Sea Serpent, I was listening to Obscure Power by Quest Master. It’s a gorgeous little fantasy synth album that really matched the vibe I was going for. If that’s your kind of thing, I highly recommend giving it a spin.

Talk soon, and thanks for keeping things weird with me!

Surprise! A Free Game for You 🎁
8 months ago – Sat, Aug 16, 2025 at 01:09:21 AM

Greetings, everyone!

I have a little gift for you.

As some of you may know, the One-Page RPG Jam is happening right now. It’s an annual event where designers challenge themselves to fit an entire game into a single page. I’ve joined every year since I started making games, and although I almost missed the deadline this time, inspiration struck at the last moment, and I just had to run with it.

The optional theme this year was growth, and after a week of half-formed ideas, something clicked: what if there was a tool that let us imagine the history of a world before the "first age" of adventurers? A cosmology generator, a mythmaker.

That’s how Cosmoira was born.

With just a standard deck of cards, 1–6 players, and a single page of rules, you take on the role of primordial gods shaping a new world. From its very inception, through ages of Elder Beings, Avatars, Wonders, cataclysms, and finally the arrival of Mortal Kins with their wars and migrations, you will weave myths of divine drama and strife, all the while drawing the map of the world itself.

Here’s a snapshot from one of my recent playtests:

I think it turned out pretty cool! And honestly, it pairs beautifully with Weird, Whimsy & Wonder—imagine seeding all that strangeness into the creation of myths and elder beasts. Delightful!

Fun fact: I actually recreated this game from scratch three times. The first draft was a complete headless mess. The second version morphed into a board game which, while fun, felt too mechanical and perfunctory. Finally, I landed where I wanted to be—a tool for crafting the origin myths of a world.

To celebrate, I’m giving every backer a free PDF copy of Cosmoira! 🎉

You can read more about the game here, and all backers can claim a free copy with the secret backer-only coupon link down below.

Weird timing for an update, I know, but I wanted to make sure this landed in your inbox in time for the weekend, just in case you're bored and feel like, I don't know, building a brand-new world.

Have a great weekend, and enjoy the game!

Talk soon,

Help me choose the next art piece! 🎨
8 months ago – Tue, Aug 12, 2025 at 02:37:43 AM

Greetings, everyone!

The first week of the campaign is in the books, and we’re sitting at 550% of our initial goal. That’s… explosive. 💥

I’ve been silly committed to development lately, which means I haven’t been promoting the campaign as much. So if you know anyone who might find this project cool, please let them know: it’s happening, and this book is real, folks!

Speaking of which, I’ve just finished another art piece for the book.

🎭 The Inspiration

When I first stumbled across this public domain illustration, I knew it belonged here. It’s from an 1899 collection predicting life in the year 2000. And apparently, that future included frog ballets performed underwater.

I have… so many questions. Why do the frogs have human arms? How is that guy playing a clarinet while submerged? Anyway, I took the central frog couple and redrew them, complete with a new background, and voilà, another delightfully weird addition to the book.

🗳️ Now It’s Your Turn

You get to help me decide which art piece I should create next. The common theme: fancy.

 What should I draw next?

Option 1: The winking sea serpent with a tie 🐍👔
Option 2: The dapper chicken gentleman 🐓🤵

Cast your vote in the poll below, and I’ll bring the winner to life in glorious weirdness. You only have until Friday!

Talk to you soon, and keep creating strange, wonderful things!

Just a few hours left for the free postcard 🌟 + Second Stretch Goal Reached! 🚀
9 months ago – Thu, Aug 07, 2025 at 09:14:06 AM

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the back-to-back updates. I’ll keep this one brief, but I’ve got two important things to share!

🕒 Just a Few Hours Left to Grab the Free Postcard

We’re approaching the 48-hour mark, and that means your chance to get the exclusive postcard with a bonus random table is almost up! If you want one, make sure to back any physical tier before the window closes.

👉 Head over to the campaign page and grab your copy now!

✅ Second Stretch Goal Reached: Web App Unlocked!

That’s right, we’ve just hit our second stretch goal: the Web App is officially happening!

If you’ve tried the free demo, you’ve seen a bare-bones prototype of what the app might become. With the stretch goal unlocked, I’ll be working on refining it with a better layout, smoother interactions, and potentially some extra features, perfect for quick inspiration on desktop or mobile while running a game.

I’m still learning JavaScript as I go, so if you have any reasonable feature ideas, feel free to drop them in the comments. I’d love to hear them and see what I can build!

Thank you again for all the support and for helping spread the word. This has already become the most successful project I’ve launched in my four years as a game designer, and I’m deeply grateful for that. 💞

I'll bring some exciting news next week!

Talk soon,
